Ukrainian Front

The involvement of Chechen fighters in the war in Ukraine represents the continuation of a long resistance against Russian imperialism. For many Chechen volunteers, the Ukrainian front is not a foreign war, but a natural extension of the struggle for independence of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria that began in the 1990s.

Through participation in international battalions fighting alongside Kyiv, Chechens reaffirm the historical continuity of their cause: that of a people in exile who have never stopped fighting for freedom, dignity and the right to self-determination.

In 2022, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine formally recognized the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria as a state temporarily occupied by the Russian Federation. This recognition strengthened the ties between the Chechen and Ukrainian resistance, giving a deep political and symbolic meaning to the presence of Chechen fighters on the eastern front.
