Below is a constantly updated list of crimes committed by Russian occupation forces in Chechnya. Clicking on the event will take you to the link to the original news item.

December 2001 – Punitive operations in the villages of Starye Atagi, Novye Atagi, Duba-Yurt and Dachu-Borzoy (murders, kidnappings for ransom, looting, damage, extortion)

January 2002 – Reprisal operations in the villages of Tsotsin-Yurt and Geldygen (murders, kidnappings for ransom, looting)

January 2, 2002 – Following an inspection of a civilian home in Starye Atagi, the house was blown up by Russian troops. The entire family of five inside was killed.

Early January 2002 – According to Memorial, following the “Cleanup” operations in the village of Tsotsin-Yurt held at the end of December, Russian soldiers are demanding ransoms of thousands of rubles for the return of the bodies of kidnapped or murdered civilians.

Early January 2002 – The bodies of four civilians kidnapped by Russian troops are found. Two of them show signs of torture and desecration.
