January 2002 – Reprisal operations in the villages of Tsotsin-Yurt and Geldygen (murders, kidnappings for ransom, looting)
January 2, 2002 – Following an inspection of a civilian home in Starye Atagi, the house was blown up by Russian troops. The entire family of five inside was killed.
Early January 2002 – The bodies of four civilians kidnapped by Russian troops are found. Two of them show signs of torture and desecration.
