December 2001 Punitive operations in the villages of Starye Atagi, Novye Atagi, Duba-Yurt and Dachu-Borzoy (murders, kidnappings for ransom, looting, damage, extortion)

January 2002Reprisal operations in the villages of Tsotsin-Yurt and Geldygen (murders, kidnappings for ransom, looting)

January 2, 2002 – Following an inspection of a civilian home in Starye Atagi, the house was blown up by Russian troops. The entire family of five inside was killed.

Early January 2002 According to Memorial, following the “Cleanup” operations in the village of Tsotsin-Yurt held at the end of December, Russian soldiers are demanding ransoms of thousands of rubles for the return of the bodies of kidnapped or murdered civilians.

Early January 2002 The bodies of four civilians kidnapped by Russian troops are found. Two of them show signs of torture and desecration.
