Documented circumstances
Ramzan Gaplaev, born in 1976, was a young adult living in Samashki. Memorial lists him as one of two brothers mortally wounded on 8 April 1995, during the second day of the Russian Interior Ministry operation.
The investigators reported that Ramzan was wounded by sniper fire near the beginning of Vostochnaya Street. He survived the initial gunshot wound but died on 10 April. His brother Ruslan was wounded in the same period and died on 9 April.
Memorial’s Appendix 3 records both brothers at the same residential address and identifies their mother as a witness. The available excerpt provides no confirmed evidence about the personal identity of the sniper. Death certificate references are given for both brothers.

Editorial note: This page records a death and circumstances documented in Memorial’s investigative report. It does not independently establish the personal guilt of a named soldier. English Romanization is editorial; the original Cyrillic name governs. The birth year alone does not establish a precise age unless the source explicitly provides one. No verified portrait of this person has yet been added.
