Ubuy – Editorial Review
The reception of “Freedom or Death! History of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria: Volume I – From Revolution to War” has been overwhelmingly positive. It has been hailed as a comprehensive and detailed account of the region’s history and a must-read for those interested in Chechen and Russian history. Readers have praised it for providing a balanced and understandable narrative, going beyond a mere critique of Russian involvement. The author’s efforts in translation and the limited resources have been evident, with some minor formatting errors noted. However, these have not detracted from the overall high regard for the book. Readers have described it as a wonderful and necessary contribution to the available literature on the topic, with some stating that it is the most detailed book available in English on the subject. Overall, it has been recommended as a valuable and insightful read for anyone interested in the history of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria. (link)

Complimenti ancora all’autore.

The book is covering so-called ‘transition period’ of Chechnya from autonomy to independence from 1989 till 1993, prior to the assault on Grozny of the New Year Eve. I am not a novice to the subject and will just give several bullets for consideration why I named it the best so far.
1. It’s written in a very detailed manner with explanations and in language of common people
2. It covers the most ‘unexplored’ period of Chechnya in between 1991 and 1994
3. The book is written in pretty unbiased manner giving the facts without much emotions
4. Believe it or not, the amount of research done is outstanding
The book is not simple to digest – it is more oriented on profound researcher rather than inexperienced reader. Does it have mistakes – of cause it does! There is only one book in this world that does not have mistakes!
I will not recommend anything – just take and read. I made this book one of the references for my books as it is really good in covering the subject of transition period.

Before this book i had no clue of the history of that region but this book delivers far more than i expected. it’s not the usual book concentrated on bashing the different disastrous russians involved but delivers a detailed and understandable account of the people’s history and the events that lead to independence. The author has limited resources and says that he did the translation himself but by now i didn’t see any problems apart from some formatting errors which can easily be overlooked. All in all a wonderful book on a topic you won’t find many books on. Absolutely recommended.

If the first volume of Freedom or Death: History of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria is a taste of what’s to come, this will be the most comprehensive work on the topic. A must-read for students of recent Chechen and Russian history!

A definite must read for anyone interested in the subject and i can’t wait to read the following work of the author . You can be proud to have written this book
